Pope Francis: I will offer the Virgin of Fatima a bouquet, in which you are the flowers

Pope Francis will travel to Fatima as a pilgrim. This was the message he sent to the Portuguese people ahead of their upcoming journey together.

He asks to the pilgrims that will be there with him to help compose the bouquet of flowers that they will offer to the Virgin Mary.

POPE FRANCIS
"I need you to be with me, I need you to join me, to compose my bouquet, my golden rose."

During Wednesday's General Audience, the pope said that he would travel to Fatima to place humanity's destiny at the feet of the Virgin Mary, as well as the destiny of each individual.

The visit will be brief but very intense. He will pray at the location where the apparitions took place, and will canonize two of the young visionaries. Undoubtedly, the most special moment will be on Saturday night, where both the pilgrims and the Holy Father will pray the rosaries in candlelight.

Vatican Cricket paves the way for Pope's trip to Fatima through inter-religious games

The Vatican Cricket team has returned from Fatima where they participated in an interfaith tournament with teams of other religions, such as Muslims, Hindus and Jews. They say that they want to align their mission with the inter-religious mission of Pope Francis, both on and off the field.

FR. EAMONN O'HIGGINS
Manager, Vatican Cricket
"So it's a way of building bridges and showing that authentic religious experience can unite people. It's not something that's divisive. On the field you had Hindu, Muslim, Anglican, and it was Catholic priests and seminarians playing together. That in itself is an image that suggests something to the world that authentic religion, religious experience can unite people.”

BR. JOSE MATHEW
Opening Baller, Vatican Cricket
"It's friendship through Cricket. On the Cricket field there are no enemies, there are no Catholics, there are no Protestants. So this Cricket field gives a good base, a good platform to build up on friendship, to build up on harmony, to build up on love.”

The Dublin-native manager says that this unity was able to be seen during their trip, both in the comradery that is built on the field with others and the special moments of prayer between the team. The St. Peter's players all dedicated themselves to Our Lady of Fatima since they are seminarians and priests who happen to play Cricket and not the other way around.

BR. JOSE MATHEW
Opening Baller, Vatican Cricket
"The favorite moment of Fatima was our trip to the Shrine of Fatima. We dedicated and consecrated the team to Our Lady of Fatima on her 100th anniversary of her apparition at Fatima. We prayed together the rosary at the Shrine of Fatima and it was a great moment for me and for all the members of the team.”

FR. EAMONN O'HIGGINS
Manager, Vatican Cricket
"Who knows in the area of spiritual providence that Our Lady brings us to Fatima and through the medium of Cricket for the 100th apparition of Fatima, perhaps in someway that is suggestive that we are doing something that serves the Lord's kingdom.”

After playing five three-hour games in Fatima and winning four of the five, the team has returned to Rome. They will continue to compete with all 15 members of their team, who are all seminarians or priests studying in the Eternal city.

12-13 May 2017-Apostolic visit to Fatima, Portugal

Postby Alice » Fri May 12, 2017 11:55 pm

Pope Francis arrives in Portugal

Fatima is a symbol of peace. The apparitions of Our Lady revealed many of the twentieth century catastrophes caused by man, such as World War II.

Pope Francis arrives in Fatima during a time of increasing international tension in Korea, as well as other wars that add up to "Third World War in pieces”, which he has strongly denounced. On this 100th anniversary of the apparitions, he will leave before the Virgin "the destinies of humanity."

At the military base of Monte Real, Pope Francis was received by the Portuguese president Marcelo Nuno Duarte, who he also met for a few minutes at the same base.

First stop in Portugal: Emotional encounter with sick soldiers and their families

The Holy Father left Rome's Fiumicino airport for Portugal just after two o'clock in the afternoon.

This is his nineteenth apostolic trip, and he will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima, as well as canonize two of the young visionaries, Francisco and Jacinta Marto.

His plane landed at the Portugal's Monte Real airport at 4:20 p.m.. There, he was received by the President of the Portoghese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

The pope then went with him to the control tower, where they held a meeting behind closed doors for a few minutes.

When they finished, Pope Francis visited the air base chapel. Outside, there were sick soldiers accompanied by their relatives affectionately waiting for him.

At all times, the pope was accompanied by a choir whose songs were filled with emotions at each and every one of his gestures.

He even signed autographs.

Pope Francis' prayer in the Chapel of Apparitions

Pope Francis:

Hail Holy Queen,
Blessed Virgin of Fatima,
Lady of Immaculate Heart,
our refuge and our way to God!
As a pilgrim of the Light that comes to us from your hands,
I give thanks to God the Father, who in every time and place is at work in human history;
As a pilgrim of the Peace that, in this place, you proclaim,
I give praise to Christ, our peace, and I implore for the world concord among all peoples;
As a pilgrim of the Hope that the Spirit awakens,
I come as a prophet and messenger to wash the feet of all, at the same table that unites us.

Refrain (sung by the assembly):

Ave O Clemens, Ave O pia!
Salve Regina Rosarii Fatimae.
Ave O clemens, Ave O pia!
Ave O dulcis Virgo Maria!

Pope Francis:
Hail, Mother of Mercy,
Lady robed in white!
In this place where, a hundred years ago
you made known to all the purposes of God’s mercy,
I gaze at your robe of light
and, as a bishop robed in white,
I call to mind all those who,
robed in the splendour of their baptism,
desire to live in God
and tell the mysteries of Christ in order to obtain peace.

Refrain...

The Holy Father:
Hail, life and sweetness,
Hail, our hope,
O Pilgrim Virgin, O Universal Queen!
In the depths of your being,
in your Immaculate Heart,
you keep the joys of men and women
as they journey to the Heavenly Homeland.
In the depths of your being,
in your Immaculate Heart,
you keep the sorrows of the human family,
as they mourn and weep in this valley of tears.
In the depths of your being,
in your Immaculate Heart,
adorn us with the radiance of the jewels of your crown
and make us pilgrims, even as you were a pilgrim.
With your virginal smile,
enliven the joy of Christ’s Church.
With your gaze of sweetness,
strengthen the hope of God’s children.
With your hands lifted in prayer to the Lord,
draw all people together into one human family.

Refrain:

Pope Francis:
O clement, O loving,
O sweet Virgin Mary,
Queen of the Rosary of Fatima!
Grant that we may follow the example of Blessed Francisco and Blessed Jacinta,
and of all who devote themselves to proclaiming the Gospel.
Thus we will follow all paths
and everywhere make our pilgrim way;
we will tear down all walls
and cross every frontier,
as we go out to every periphery,
to make known God’s justice and peace.
In the joy of the Gospel, we will be the Church robed in white,
the whiteness washed in the blood of the Lamb,
blood that today too is shed in the wars tearing our world apart.
And so we will be, like you, an image of the column of light
that illumines the ways of the world,
making God known to all,
making known to all that God exists,
that God dwells in the midst of his people,
yesterday, today and for all eternity.

Refrain...

Pope Francis, with all the faithful:
Hail, Mother of the Lord,
Virgin Mary, Queen of the Rosary of Fatima!
Blessed among all women,
you are the image of the Church robed in paschal light,
you are the honour of our people,
you are the victory over every assault of evil.
Prophecy of the merciful love of the Father,
Teacher of the Message of Good News of the Son,
Sign of the burning Fire of the Holy Spirit,
teach us, in this valley of joys and sorrows,
the eternal truths that the Father reveals to the little ones.
Show us the strength of your protective mantle.
In your Immaculate Heart,
be the refuge of sinners
and the way that leads to God.
In union with my brothers and sisters,
in faith, in hope and in love,
I entrust myself to you.
In union with my brothers and sisters, through you, I consecrate myself to God,
O Virgin of the Rosary of Fatima.
And at last, enveloped in the Light that comes from your hands,
I will give glory to the Lord for ever and ever. Amen.

Refrain...

Pope Francis prays before the image of Our Lady of Fatima

After passing through the airport's chapel, the pope, as a pilgrim, visited the place where the apparitions of Fatima occurred.

He was received by the Sanctuary's rector, as well as the hundreds of thousands of pilgrims were awaiting his arrival.

He prayed in silence for a few minutes before the image of Our Lady of Fatima, and left a bouquet of flowers at her feet.

Pope in the Chapel of Apparitions: "I beg you for world harmony amongst the peoples"

More than half a million pilgrims were enthusiastically waiting for the arrival of the pope.

Pope Francis descended from the popemobile and left a bouquet of flowers at the feet of Our Lady of Fatima.

He then prayed silently before the image for almost 10 minutes. Joining him in this prayer were the more than 500,000 people who filled the esplanade of the Sanctuary.

After this silent prayer, the Holy Father addressed this humble but firm intention for peace.

POPE FRANCIS
"Hail Queen. Blessed Virgin of Fatima. I implore to the world the concord between all peoples. I come like prophet and messenger to wash the feet to all, around the same table that unites us. Together with my brothers, for you, I consecrate myself to God, O Virgin of the Rosary of Fatima."

Like his predecessors, Pope Francis gave a golden rose to Our Lady. He did not finish his prayer, because before finishing the act he prayed for a moment before Our Lady of Fatima.

Then he greeted this group of children waiting for him inside the Chapel of the Apparitions, which they popularly call "Capelinha". Before leaving the esplanade, he stopped the popemobile to offer some final gestures of affection to the pilgrims.
